  12. These are some pictures you can use as desktop background pictures, in both
  13. medium and high resolution forms.  The NEOPIC pictures are intended for use
  14. with NeoDesk, and contain the NeoDesk logo.  The WARP9 pictures contain no
  15. logo.  If you have both packages, using both sets of pictures will cause the
  16. NeoDesk logo to appear or disappear, depending on whether you're at the NeoDesk
  17. desktop.  Consult the manuals for NeoDesk or Warp 9 if you're not sure how to
  18. install these pictures.

  26. Originally I had used the Windoze MARBLE.BMP as a base image for the
  27. background, however, Microsoft protects their copyright quite religiously and
  28. it's not exactly smart to spread around their files without their permission.

  30. So I created a marble surface using the POV (Persistence of Vision) ray tracer
  31. on the PC, traced it, and converted it from .TGA to .PI2 form with a custom
  32. program.

  34. I then loaded PageStream and displayed "NeoDesk" in the Flash font at around 72
  35. points.  I took a snapshot of the screen and imported this image into a custom
  36. paint program to do some touch-up work.

  38. I then loaded the marble image into the paint program and applied the NeoDesk
  39. logo to it with sculpted edges.  Some final touch-up work included adding the ╛
  40. symbol to the NEOPIC pictures.

  42. To get the monochrome versions, I switched to my mono monitor and used View II
  43. to display the medium res pics with the Floyd-Steinberg dither.  I then
  44. snapshotted the screens.

  46. It sounds like a lot of work, and it was... but I got a set of pictures I
  47. really like.  That makes a big difference.
